Hearing Aid/FM/Cochlear Implant Monitoring
CAPD

Missouri School for the Deaf (MSD) is committed to the ideal of bilingual community in which deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people learn and work together without communication barriers.  Students attending MSD can get audiologist services right here on the spot.  MSD welcomes all types of students who wear hearing aids, cochlear implants, or no hearing devices.

A licensed audiologist is on campus full time to evaluate, make and order earmolds, and make recommendations for other equipment. The audiologist also works with building personnel to create good listening environments for all students. All of a student’s audiological care may be transferred to the MSD audiologist, but parents have the option of retaining an outside audiologist with whom to collaborate on care.  The key benefit to having an audiologist on staff is convenience and being able to provide evaluations and consulting for students.  The audiologist can also repair most hearing aids on site as well.

The Audiology Department also has a Hearing Aid Loaner Bank for students to access who don’t have hearing aids or can’t afford hearing aids.  This loaner bank is free of charge to MSD students and to students in public schools throughout the state of Missouri.

Audiological Assessments:

Hearing evaluations are available to any child 0-21 years of age.  This includes immittance audiometry, pure tone aire, bone conduction, and otoacoustic emissions, speech discrimination assessments, and auditory processing disorder evaluations.

Assistance with the selection and purchase of hearing aids is also available.

Auditory Trainer Rental Program:

Personal FM Systems are leased annually to school districts for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.  Equipment is distributed at the start of each school year and must be returned at the end of the year for servicing.

To access help with your FM System, click here for Cookbook instructions.

Hearing Aid Loaner Bank:

Hearing aids are donated, then set by an audiologist and distributed to children who
have difficulty obtaining hearing aids.  Contact the audiologist for assistance and individual needs.
