Eligibility
The Outreach Team Comprehensive student evaluations are conducted by staff fluent in the student's mode of communication, certified in their areas of expertise and experienced in evaluating students who are deaf or hard of hearing on the campus of the Missouri School for the Deaf. These evaluations are done weekly and are free of charge. On the day of the appointment, following the evaluations and subsequent staffing by members of the team, a counseling session is provided for the parents of each student. All evaluation results are reviewed with the parents and opportunities are provided for them to ask questions. A brief tour of the campus may be scheduled if time permits. The Resource Center on Deafness and all the professional staff at the Missouri School for the Deaf serve as the state clearinghouse for information and resources on the education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Public School Support The Missouri School for the Deaf’s Resource Center works collaboratively with families and public schools to meet the unique learning, communication, and language needs of children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are being educated in their local school districts and communities. When developing an appropriate educational program for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing, the language and communication needs of the student should be carefully considered. Missouri School for the Deaf’s Resource Center provides a broad range of information to public schools, families, and students with a special focus on language, communication and literacy development.
