Eligibility

Deaf and hard of hearing children and youth who are enrolled in public school programs who live in the State of Missouri, their families and their educational teams are eligible for outreach services.

The Outreach Team

The Resource Center on Deafness has a Deaf Education Consultant on staff that provides assistance to public schools at their request.

Comprehensive student evaluations are conducted by staff fluent in the student's mode of communication, certified in their areas of expertise and experienced in evaluating students who are deaf or hard of hearing on the campus of the Missouri School for the Deaf.  These evaluations are done weekly and are free of charge.  On the day of the appointment, following the evaluations and subsequent staffing by members of the team, a counseling session is provided for the parents of each student.  All evaluation results are reviewed with the parents and opportunities are provided for them to ask questions.  A brief tour of the campus may be scheduled if time permits.

The Resource Center on Deafness and all the professional staff at the Missouri School for the Deaf serve as the state clearinghouse for information and resources on the education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Public School Support

The Missouri School for the Deaf’s Resource Center works collaboratively with families and public schools to meet the unique learning, communication, and language needs of children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are being educated in their local school districts and communities.
