Welcome to the Captioned Media Program The Captioned Media Program (CMP) is a free loan service, much like your local library. The only difference is that CMP loans captioned videos and DVD’s to deaf and hard of hearing individuals. The CMP is funded by the
U.S. Department of Education for selecting, captioning and distributing
captioned media materials. These materials are open captioned (You need no
special equipment to use them. Just put it in the VCR/DVD player and press
play. The captions are embedded in the tape.) and loaned free of charge to deaf
and hard of hearing persons, their families, teachers, interpreters and anyone
who works with deaf and hard of hearing persons. There are no age restrictions.
We have videos for Kindergarten through adult. These videos include educational
titles, self-help videos, classic movies, as well as special interest (crafts,
hobbies, etc.) and theatrical titles. To use this service, all you need to do is request an account number. It’s a free loan service, using the postal service to get materials to you. We pay the postage, and include in the shipment a pre-paid return label. Many of the educational titles also include a lesson guide. There are more than 4,000 titles to choose from. What are you waiting for? Get an account number and start ordering! Please give us 10 days to 2 weeks to get your media to you. We mail materials “Library Rate” and it takes a bit longer than regular mail. If you want to plan a special event, you can reserve your video/DVD far in advance of the event. The CMP has a National Library in Spartanburg, South Carolina. We are a branch library, located on the Missouri School for the Deaf campus in Fulton, MO. If you have questions about applications or ordering, please contact us. FREE? Who pays for this service?
Yes, it’s free! There is absolutely no cost to borrow media materials from
CMP. We even pay the postage both ways. The CMP is funded by the U.S.
Department of Education. The mission of the Captioned Media Program (CMP) is to
provide all persons who are deaf or hard of hearing awareness of and equal
access to communication and learning through the use of captioned educational
media and supportive collateral materials. The CMP also acts as a captioning
information and training center. The ultimate goal of the CMP is to permit media
to be an integral part in the lifelong learning process for all stakeholders in
the deaf and hard of hearing community: adults, students, parents, and
educators. How do I place an order
