The MSD Library sponsors RIF*,
Reading is Fundamental, three times a year. This is a program where
all the students can pick out free books to take home.
The next RIF*
Distribution will
be held the
week of May 2, 2005.
Students involved in art will be displaying
some of their work throughout that whole week.
During the first RIF*
distribution this year, Stark Elementary students did short ASL stories.

The Second annual RIF*,
Reading is Fundamental, program was held on February 8th. Students were
able to pick out 2 free books. During RIF* High School drama students had
7 different stations that included short skits to tribute Laura Redden Searing, a famous
journalist and MSD 1858 graduate's, life.

Born February 9, 1840 in Sumerset County Maryland. Enrolled in MSD in 1855
at the age of 15. Graduated MSD in 1858. She died August 10, 1923 in
San Mateo, California

Laura Redden Searing Searing
wrote for many newspapers and magazines. She also had books of poetry and short
stories published. The library carries some of her publications. |

Michael George Brennan, Searing's true love, who died before they could

Wilkes Booth, who Searing help compose a poem for a lady friend.
He was also the man that shot Lincoln. |
